Eschatology

Death:
a rodent that’s lost all its teeth
gnawing at the iron door of unrequited love.

Judgment:
a no-word ‘no’
instantly erasing
the encyclopedia of longing.

Heaven:
The beloved
so dissolved in entirety
that ‘I’ is meaningless.

Hell:
Death’s sullen companion
through the black corridors of eternity.

Reconciliation

A cheek-turn decision’s possible issue
for cheek-turn means
staying within slapping distance
equal, more or less,
to embrace-reach;
reconciliation is resolve
(or resignation)
of leaving’s impossibility
or staying-intent
but either way
between those feet and these
between slap-decision and slap
kiss-need and kiss
the wind must have room to blow
for love is a fire
and no flame can reconcile
to oxygen-free burning.

Animal Verses

Shoot and still
is butchery and preservation
an ‘animal’ exercise
defended as ‘need’ ;
no questions asked
none given
by victim
mis-identified as ‘mute’,
but shoot and still
is also ‘another animal’ pursuit
bloodless and silent
another without-permission
beyond Q&A thing
that tempers other lusts
and,
in rare moments,
speaks of movement
and survival
defiance and freedom
of eminent uncapturability.
