ROUTE

Usually marked
with road sign and pavement
neat white lines and
curves
elegantly chiseled
from hillock and rock,
but there are routes unmarked
unlocatable on map
or memory
stray-ways
of stupor and candor
love and heartbreak,
and i've heard
they are given to wandering
and wonderment
the tiny must-miss things
removed from tourist guide
and oral tradition,
the wide angled landscapes
and tiny blue-breaks
on cloudy days;
they are marked by generality
but not named,
fragrant
nevertheless.
