1982-2012

Then
an incarceration
by innocence
Now
known imprisonment,
and the intervening years
were made of waves
leave and books
question and exclamation
choices, regrets and perfumes
paper-weights and heart-weights
wrong squares and bad bishops
we were skewered
by carelessness
forked by knights
that preyed in daylight and dream
and though a kite-thread ran
on a score sheet
with indecipherable scribbles
the moves that gained space
and those that checkmated
from then to now,
we remain
heart fish and heart fish
in mind-drained bowls
peering through refractions
glass-made realities
not of our design.

  2. Dear Malinda,
I take lot of solace in verse, especially when going through 'bad patches' in life. I also believe in Dhammapada and I happened to come across your write up on the value of Dhammapada. As a balmy anecdote to many more who'd find solace in verse, can you pen down few verses on Buddhistic topics? I'm a very sick person and few such verses from you will bring a ray of hope to my weary existence. May the blessings of the Noble Triple Gem be with you.

    1. Most of my poems contain Buddhist thought. Siddhartha Gauthama, after all, is my greatest source of inspiration, not just in poetry but all things. Was interviewed once and said as much: http://www.nation.lk/2009/05/03/eye9.html
