A Dhammapada Etch

Virtue, it is said,
yields benefit
and evil in turn
just as the wheel follows oxen;
and thus we blaze a path
through the wilderness
of our infirmities
and trudge and toil
to destinations
of bliss undefined
but eternal
as is said.

[inspired by the line drawings of Gamini Abeykoon]

  1. If metal can be polished

    to a mirror-like finish,

    what polishing might the mirror

    of the heart require?

Between the mirror and the heart

    is this single difference:

    the heart conceals secrets,

    while the mirror does not.
